The impressive and breathtaking scenery of the wild-romantic Roman quarry of St. Margarethen provides the perfect and unique backdrop for these live-recording of a colourful open-air staging of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida. These staging of Verdi's most famous opera is a festival for all the senses: the Roman quarry as a mystical center is an ideal stage for opera performances. Verdi's "grand opera" needs of course monumental elements: horses, elephants and more than 400 participants take part in the triumphal march at the end of the second act added to the opulent stage setting. The Opera Festival St. Margarethen in Austria with it's unusual ambiance of the Roman quarry counts among Europe's most important open-air festivals and is visited by almost 150.000 opera lovers annually.
