Mahlermania

Orchestra of Deutsche Oper Berlin
Moritz Gnann

Music from Gustav Mahler in Arrangements from Anne Champert, Rainer Riehn, Arnold Schönberg and Otto Singer A progressive outlook versus fear of the unknown, the bitterness of the outsider, a manic drive versus self-absorption… Gustav Mahler’s music is a mass of contrasts and dualities linked only by a flimsy tissue of shifting balances. In Mahler’s body of songs no less than in his nine symphonies, this inner conflict thrusts itself upon the audience with existential urgency. In this production with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Nico and the Navigators tackle the cosmos of Mahler’s songs in an evening of poetical and physical expression that endeavors to distil this shifting of senses for the stage.

Repertoire

Gustav Mahler: Excerpts from Symphony No.1, Symphony No.2, Symphony No.4, Symphony No.5, "Des Knaben Wunderhorn", "Lieder und Gesänge aus der Jugendzeit", "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen", "Rückert-Lieder", "Kindertotenlieder" and "Der Abschied" from "Das Lied von der Erde"
