Gala from Berlin 2024

Daniil Trifonov piano
Berliner Philharmoniker
Kirill Petrenko

The star pianist Daniil Trifonov performs Johannes Brahms' monumentally virtuoso Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko. Followed by Richard Wagner’s prelude to act one from “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” and two splendidly orchestrated dance works by Richard Strauss that are conceivably contradictory in expression: the charming, second waltz sequence from “Der Rosenkavalier” and Salome's Dance with its exhibitionistic, almost brutal sensuality.

Repertoire

Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat Major, Op. 83; Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Prelude to Act I; Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier, Second Set of Waltzes; Strauss: Salome, Op. 54: Dance of the seven veils; Strauß: Stürmisch in Lieb' und Tanz, Op. 393
