Young Euro Classic 2024: European Union Youth Orchestra

Nicolas Altstaedt violoncello
European Union Youth Orchestra
Gianandrea Noseda

For 25 years, the European Union Youth Orchestra has brought together exceptional young musicians from all 27 EU countries, showcasing their talent and dedication on stages across Europe, including their celebrated performances at Young Euro Classic in Berlin.

Under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda, this programme opens with Carlos Simon’s piece, “Fate Now Conquers,” a contemporary work inspired by a note in Beethoven’s diaries, blending modern orchestral textures with classical inspiration. This is followed by Benjamin Britten’s “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra,” a virtuosic exploration of the orchestra’s sections. The programme culminates with Richard Strauss’s tone poem “Don Quixote,” where Altstaedt’s cello part portrays the noble yet whimsical character of Cervantes’ legendary knight.
