Ballet National du Capitole: Semiramis and Don Juan

Ballet de l’Opéra national du Capitole
Edward Clug, choreographer (Don Juan); Angel Rodriguez, choreographer (Semiramis)
Le Concert des Nations
Jordi Savall

Christoph Willibald Gluck, an innovator and dance enthusiast, worked throughout his life to ensure that ballet would no longer be reduced to mere entertainment, but would become an expressive and autonomous action.
In 1761 in Vienna, his ballet Don Juan became the manifesto of the ballet-pantomime and the first ‘ballet’ in the modern sense of the term. Edward Clug (Don Juan) and Ángel Rodríguez (Semiramis) reveal the eternal modernity of these two scores. This exceptional programme is conducted by the great master of early and baroque music, Jordi Savall, who leads his Concert des Nations.
