Verbier Festival 2024: VFO, Vasily Petrenko, Nikolai Lugansky

Verbier plays host to another exceptional concert from the 2024 Festival, as the superstar pianist Nikolai Lugansky takes the stage with the Verbier Festival Orchestra and maestro Vasily Petrenko. With an all-Tchaikovsky programme, the performance starts with a masterpiece recognizable by its opening horn call that introduces a sequence of dramatic piano chords underlining a lyrical orchestral melody: Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor. Followed by Tchaikovsky’s and Rachmaninov’s: Lullaby, Op. 16, No. 1, the magic concludes with the Act II of Tchaikovsky’s iconic ballet, The Nutcracker, including the beautiful Waltz of the Flowers, the distinctive Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the captivating Pas de Deux: some of his most sublime and intense music.
