Verbier Festival 2024: Mao Fujita: Recital
The beloved regular at the Verbier Festival pianist Mao Fujita offers up a well-balanced recital at the 2024 edition. Captivating the audience with his technical proficiency and poetic sensitivity from the very first moments of interpreting Grieg’s Lyric Pieces, Séverac's Cerdaña - Les Fêtes and Chopin's wistful Barcarolle, Fujita continues with Prokofiev's bold Piano Sonata No. 1 in F minor and a lively rendition of Mozart’s Variations on "Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman", followed by Robert Schumann's unconventional Kreisleriana, the composer's own favorite of his works. As the Silver Medal Winner at the 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition, Fujita takes on the movement “Passé Lointain” from Tchaikovsky’s last works for solo piano, called 18 Pieces – before ending on Scriabin’s Prelude No. 21.
