Esa-Pekka Salonen
Long committed to championing groundbreaking works, The Cleveland Orchestra welcomes back composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen to lead his kaleidoscopic Cello Concerto, with Senja Rummukainen making her Cleveland Orchestra debut in the solo role. Salonen also conducts his compatriot Sibelius’s revered Fifth Symphony, which saw a return to late Romantic tonality amid 20th-century experimentation, as well Ravel’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin”, an elegy to friends lost during World War I.
