Czech National Ballet: Scheherazade
Based on the famous Middle Eastern story, the full-length ballet features a mesmerising, diverse dance idiom, and overwhelming visual dimensions.
In order to escape the murderous madness of her husband, King Shahryar, Scheherazade tells him a story every night, always leaving him hanging, eager to hear the rest, so that he will spare her life. The subterfuge lasts a thousand and one nights and, thanks to the power of her storytelling, Scheherazade transforms the king, who ends up making her his queen. This is the story of One Thousand and One Nights, which the famous Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti stages in this exceptional production of Scheherazade for the Czech National Ballet, in collaboration with Carlo Cerri and to the music of Rimsky-Korsakov's majestic orchestral suite. The ballet features various dance genres in a sublime blend of contemporary and classical elements.
