Maxim Vengerov and Myung-Whun Chung with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra
At the Wiener Konzerthaus, audiences experienced an evening of powerful musical expression and intensity. Making its first appearance at this venue, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed under the direction of its Music Director Myung-Whun Chung in a programme that brought together personal renewal and elemental energy.
The concert opened with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, a work shaped by the composer’s recovery from a profound personal crisis and infused with renewed vitality. The soloist was Maxim Vengerov, one of the leading violinists of our time and a long-standing favourite with Vienna audiences. The second half featured Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, a landmark of musical modernism whose raw rhythms and primal force continued to captivate listeners. Drawing on his extensive international experience, Myung-Whun Chung guided the orchestra through this compelling programme.
