Verbier Festival 2025: Evgeny Kissin plays Bach, Chopin, Shostakovich
Evgeny Kissin returns to the 2025 Verbier Festival with a solo recital devoted to Bach, Chopin and Shostakovich, composers central to his artistic identity. Long admired for the precision of his technique and the seriousness of his musical approach, Kissin brings a measured intensity to Bach’s Partita No. 2, balancing rhythmic vitality with expressive restraint. Chopin’s Nocturnes and the Fourth Scherzo follow, combining lyrical concentration with structural command. The programme concludes with Shostakovich’s Piano Sonata No. 2 and two Preludes and Fugues from Op. 87, works that reflect the composer’s synthesis of rigorous voice-leading and modern harmonic language.
