Super Human

Super Human deals with the productions of the Afro-American director Hype Williams by means of portraying the black HipHop-musician Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes. On the basis of the most interesting works of Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes and Hype Williams, Super Human reconstructs and analyses their techniques and aesthetic strategies as well as the digital technologies which underlie them. The documentary focuses particulary on Missy Elliott, Hype Williams and Busta Rhymes during the shooting of the videos ”The Rain”, ”She’s a Bitch” and ”All’N My Grill”. Missy explains her way to produce music and talks about her special teamwork with Hype Williams and Busta Rhymes. Hype Williams discribes the technical and textual highlights in the realisation of Missy’s videos. In additon, Busta Rhymes discusses the style and the remarkable talent of Hype Williams. Among the musicians and the outstanding music videos, which are a main component of the documentary, the cultur theoretician Kodwo Eshun, the journalist Mercedes Bunz, the producer Rubin Mendoza and the special effects artist Haari Pekoonen are interviewed. The result is an enthralling and entertaining documentary about virtual, yet barely ”human” appearing audio-visual worlds.
