Frank Peter Zimmermann: Documentary

Frank Peter Zimmermann violin | Enrico Pace piano

Movies are the resolution of a conflict between light and shadows. Light reveals truth and shadows obscure it, with a broad base of tonality in between. These six Bach sonatas have been recorded in one of Germany’s most beautiful Baroque halls in Polling (300 years old). Produced on HDTV, this documentary focuses on a high visual aesthetic, showing the timeless struggle between light and shadow, using directional light to create the powerful warmth of the sun shining through the ancient windows. This documentary will centre on the recording: What does Bach mean to these two artists? What are their thoughts on playing old German music? What does the old and very special violin mean to Frank Peter Zimmermann? Why does Enrico Pace play on an old Italian piano and what is so special about?
