A Film and its Era: The Last Tango in Paris (Bernardo Bertolucci)

Bernardo Bertolucci, Maria Schneider, Vittorio Storaro, Germaine Greer, Catherine Allégret, Fernand Moszkowicz, Jean- David Lefebvre

Following on from his "biography" of Claude Berri's French megahit movie, "Tchao Pantin", in this new film, Serge July investigates the life and times of Bernardo Bertolucci's controversial 1972 tragedy, "Last Tango in Paris". "Last Tango" is a noir fable about sexual liberation and the downfall of character, whose biography is not a million miles from that of Marlon Brando. He plays the part. Great movies are about the dreams and nightmares of the period in which they were conceived. "Once Upon a Time... Last Tango in Paris", directed by Bruno Nyutten, takes us right to the heart of the extravagant 70s.
