Kirill Petrenko

The Easter Festival with the Berliner Philharmoniker and chief conductor Kirill Petrenko opens with Beethoven’s opera Fidelio. The symphonic impulse that boldly drives Beethoven’s music forward would exert a decisive influence on Wagner. Fidelio has always been most performed and understood in times of transition when something important was involved. With this in mind, Kirill Petrenko is inaugurating his operatic collaboration with the Berliner Philharmoniker in Baden-Baden with Beethoven’s only opera. The production also marks a new beginning in the hands of multi-awardwinning Slovenian director Mateja Koležnik.
