We have no moving images of Gustav Mahler and no recordings of his voice, but there are photos, texts and music. They've been brought together to form a whole in: The Mahler Monologues. It's neither a historical approach nor a chronological one, but a formula through which Mahler himself speaks to us.
The Mahler Monologues sketch an image of the person Gustav Mahler, who struggles with life and with himself, but who can also be cheerful, loving and moody: in short, as he sounds in his music. He is his music. Music in which we too perceive a reflection and therefore a recognition of ourselves.
