Classic Archive 013 - Leonid Kogan
This episode of Classic Archive is devoted to Leonid Kogan, one of the great Russian lords of violin. Watching his performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D minor, recorded in Paris in 1966, one can hear his characteristic romantic sweep and large stylings. Louis de Froment conducts the ORTF National Orchestra. Following Beethoven’s imposing canvas, Kogan performs Johann Sebastian Bach’s sparse Partita n°2 in D minor, as an encore to the same concert. An opportunity to evaluate Leonid Kogan’s perfect balance.
