This episode of Classic Archive is devoted to pianist Julius Katchen, one of the greatest American pianists of the 20th Century. We watch him performing Johannes Brahms’s Hungarian Dances n°4 & 5, recorded in France in 1966 for the " Discorama " TV show. The same year, for the "Prestige de la Musique" program, Katchen delivers to the French music lovers the very first performance of Brahms’s Sonata n°2 in F sharp minor. Shortly before his untimely death, in a 1968 broadcast of the " Jeunesses Musicales de France ", Katchen delivers an urgent version of Schubert’s Fantasie in C (Wanderer), followed by the same composer’s Impromptu n°3 in G flat major.
