Verbier Festival 2014: Leonidas Kavakos, Clemens Hagen & Marc-André Hamelin

Leonidas Kavakos violin | Clemens Hagen violoncello | Marc-André Hamelin piano

At the Verbier church, the trio Kavakos-Hagen-Hamelin performs masterpieces of the Romantic repertoire. Following his victories at both the Sibelius and Paganini competitions in 1985 and 1988, Leonidas Kavakos quickly became one of the most sough-after violinists of the classical musical scene. He plays in a trio fomation with cellist Clemens Hagen (passionate about chamber music, he founded the Hagen Quartet ensemble) and Canadian pianist Marc-André Hamelin. This latter is very well known for exploring various rare or unknown repertoires, but his talent also serves piano masterpieces, with a constant will to defy the limits of the instrument.
