Verbier 2015: Avi Avital

Avi Avital

The mandolin is quite a rare instrument, and there is - by far - less repertoire written for it than for, say, the violin. Avi Avital turns that which might be considered a disadvantage into the strength of his work: He constantly arranges existing repertoire for his instrument, and even writes his own pieces - thus being in constant, fruitful conversation with music history.

Repertoire

BLOCH: Nigun, extract No. 2 from Baal Shem Suite ROUSTOM: Hanjale SAULI: Partita No. 3 for mandolin KUWAHARA: Improvised Poem AVITAL: Kedma for retuned mandolin BACH: Partita No. 2 in D Major
