The Final Chorale

Dutch Wind Ensemble

A documentary on Stravinsky’s «Symphonies for Wind Instruments», a funerary work written in memory of Debussy (for whom Stravinsky had always felt a great friendship). The ‘Symphonies for Wind Instruments’ was composed by Igor Stravinsky in 1920 in memory of Claude Debussy. It was the first composition where Stravinsky used a so called ‘montage’ technique. The documentary takes the structure and character of the composition as the basic form for its style and editing. The film is divided into an informative part and a stylistic part with the performance of ‘Symphonies d’instruments a vent” by the Dutch Wind Ensemble conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw.
