Short film on Stockhausen’s «Kontakte» as part of the «Sonic Images» project. The composition Kontakte was written in 1959/90. It focuses on the relationship between electronic sounds and the acoustic sounds of piano and percussion instruments. The prerecorded electronic material is spatially distributed over four loudspeakers, which generates a contrast with the instrumental sounds, which come from fixed points in space. Scheffer's film projections show close-ups of the percussion instruments on the left and right screens, and a mix of four cameras on the center screen whose movements are determined by the musical score, creating an analogue between the musical and visual motions of the piece.
