Leonard Bernstein

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s death (1918-1990), Classic Archive pays homage to the great American conductor and composer whose vast repertoire ranged from Bach to the 20th century music. This versatility is illustrated by the first programme filmed in 1977 during the English Bach Festival which Bernstein then presided. His predecessors had been Albert Schweitzer and Stravinsky. No doubt that his performance of the latter’s Magnificat was a tribute to his senior colleague.

Repertoire

Igor Stravinsky: Mass; Johann Sebastian Bach: Magnificat
