This DVD Box presents two of the concert highlights of the Salzburg Festival, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, with outstanding soloists.

Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducts Mozart

For the Ouverture Spirituelle Nikolaus Harnoncourt chose two seldom heard works by Mozart. Together with the Arnold Schoenberg Chor and his Concentus Musicus Wien ensemble, he conducts the Litaniae de venerabili altaris sacramento, K. 243 and the Missa longa in C Major, K. 262 in the unique Salzburg Cathedral, a jewel of Baroque architecture.

Joseph Haydn: The Seasons

The Seasons is a musical manifesto addressed to nature and the countryfolk, breaking ground with its hitherto unexplored subject-matter as it heralds the dawning Romantic era in music. Nikolaus Harnoncourt brings out the beautiful simplicity of the work. Including the documentary “Nikolaus Harnoncourt rehearsing Joseph Haydn’s The Seasons”.
