Northern Ballet Sinfonia

Multi award-winning Northern Ballet are the UK’s première narrative ballet company whose work pushes the boundaries of what stories can be told through dance. They inspire new and diverse audiences to engage with the artform through their unique blend of classical ballet, storytelling and live orchestra at every performance. In 2019/2020 the company celebrates their 50th anniversary.
Victoria tells the astounding life story of Queen Victoria through the eyes of her youngest child and lifelong companion Beatrice. travelling back in time from Victoria’s death bed, Beatrice relives her memories of her mother as a secluded widow before discovering her anew as she transcribes the Queen’s intimate diaries. Wife, mother, lover, Empress; Victoria presents the various, often conflicting faces of this emblematic monarch, and shows how an act of daughterly devotion became one of history’s most notorious revisions. Northern Ballet’s production coincides with what would have been Queen Victoria’s 200th birthday (24 May 2019).
