Berliner Philharmoniker - Sir Simon Rattle plays Brahms

Daniel Barenboim piano | Sir Simon Rattle conductor
Berliner Philharmoniker

This DVD includes the new EuroArts & Idéale Audience Catalogue 2010. Recorded live at the ancient Herodes Atticus Odeon in Athens 2004, this was the first European Concert that Sir Simon Rattle conducted in his new post as chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker. The concert also represents the first musical encounter between Rattle and world-famous pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim. This all-Brahms programme features the impressive First Piano Concerto with the romantic Adagio which Brahms wrote as a portrait of Clara Schumann, and Schoenberg’s successful arrangement of the First Piano Quartet for orchestra. Showing overwhelming views of the nearby Acropolis and spectacular scenery, this state-of-the-art recording brings home a true European musical highlight and includes a behind-the-scenes bonus feature.

Repertoire

Johannes Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1; Piano Quartet No.1, Orchestration by Arnold Schoenberg
