This performance of Fauré’s Requiem combines the historically informed musicians of Les Siècles performing on historically accurate instruments and the Ensemble Aedes who perform choral works form the last five centuries. A more organ-dominated original version from 1893 was chosen, while the lyrics are based on a Latin text. Pronounced in French, as was customary in France at the time, this gives the vocal part a particularly bright and luminous timbre that uniquely blends with the timbre produced by the Les Siècles instrumentalists to form a convincing unity.
