Vox Luminis: Light & Shadow

Vox Luminis

Beautiful Renaissance music comes to life through your screen. Vox Luminis perform a selection of renaissance motets. Besides Latin works by, among others, the two greatest composers of the second half of the 16th century -Tallis and Byrd-, there are English works, always linked to the theme of eternal light. Funeral music of all kinds is on the programme, including Byrd's hit Ave Verum -a piece that EVERY Englishman can sing along to. You will also hear several anthems by Tallis, White, Sheppard, Tomkins, Weelkes and Morley. The real highlights of this concert are Christe qui lux es et dies, so beautiful, so simple (based on Gregorian chant), so handsome, by Robert White (c.1535-1574) and Nolo mortem peccatoris by Thomas Morley (c.1557-1602) in which the composer combines as a kind of 'motet-anthem' Latin with English "father I'm thine only son".

Repertoire

Motets by Thomas Tallis (ca.1505-1585), John Sheppard (1515-1558), Thomas Morley (1557/8-1602) and others
