Thierry Malandain: The Firebird & Martin Harriague: The Rite of Spring
Real hits of the twentieth century, "The Firebird" and "The Rite of Spring" by Igor Stravinsky have been choreographed many times since their respective creations by Fokine and Nijinsky for the Russian Ballet. To revisit them, Thierry Malandain and Martin Harriague have gone back to their living source. The director of the Centre Chorégraphique National Malandain Ballet Biarritz, with experienced musical sensitivity, gives back to the Bird of the original story its biblical spirituality of “passer of light” between sky and earth, tasked with bringing Mankind comfort and hope. On the other side, Martin Harriague, associate artist with a sharp gaze, takes his inspiration from the argument of the Rite presented by Stravinsky in the Montjoie magazine to stage the telluric pulsation of life, at work in the score.
