Waldbühne 2023: German Opera Night
Radiant heroes, eerie forests: The Berliner Philharmoniker and conductor Andris Nelsons end the season at the Waldbühne with romantic opera. They are joined by star tenor Klaus Florian Vogt, who is a regular guest at the world’s great stages – from the Bayreuth Festival to the New York Met. This guest performance marks his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker, including his signature role as Wagner’s Lohengrin. Alongside the fairytale world of Weber’s Freischütz, we hear music by sound magician Richard Strauss: his Till Eulenspiegel, selected orchestral songs and excerpts from the turbulent Rosenkavalier.
Carl Maria von Weber: Freischütz, Op. 77: Overture; Der Freischütz: ‟Nein! länger tragʼ ich nicht die Qualen” – ”Durch die Wälder, durch die Auen”, Recitative and Aria of Max; Richard Wagner: Lohengrin: Prelude to Act 3; Lohengrin: Lohengrin’s Narration ‟In fernem Land, unnahbar euren Schritten”, Lohengrin: ‟Mein lieber Schwan”; Richard Strauss: Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche (Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks), Op. 28; Ständchen, Op. 17 No. 2 (version for singing voice and orchestra); Freundliche Vision, Op. 48 No. 1 (version singing for voice and orchestra); Cäcilie, Op. 27 No. 2 (Version for singing voice and orchestra); Der Rosenkavalier, Suite, Op. 59
