Verbier Festival 2017: George Li: Piano Recital
Among the young star pianists performing at 2017 Verbier Festival is the talented George Li. He performs some of the most beautiful pages Beethoven and Liszt ever wrote. The 21-year-old American pianist performs Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas No. 6 and 23 - the famous “Appassionata” that the writer Romain Rolland described as a “torrent of fire in a bed of granite”. Next come two excerpts from Liszt’s celebrated Années de pèlerinage and his Réminiscences de Don Juan, a paraphrase on Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni.
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 6 in F Major, Op. 10 No. 2; Piano Sonata No. 23 in F Minor, Op. 57, “Appassionata”; Franz Liszt: Sonetto 104 del Petrarca (Années de pèlerinage S. 161); Les jeux d'eaux à la villa d'Este S. 163; Réminiscences de Don Juan S. 418; Christoph Willibald Gluck: Melody (Orfeo ed Euridice); "Gnomenreigen"; Consolation No. 3
