Verbier Festival 2017: Verbier Festival Orchestra, Gábor Takács-Nagy & Mikhail Pletnev

Mikhail Pletnev piano
Verbier Festival Orchestra
Gábor Takács-Nagy

Music Director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra (VFCO) since 2007, Gábor Takács-Nagy conducts three masterpieces of the classical orchestral repertoire: Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A Minor with Mikhail Pletnev as soloist, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3. Following Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, a joyous and lighthearted work, the VFCO is joined by Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev for a performance of Schumann’s Piano Concerto - a work emblematic of its composer’s genius that is, as Schumann put it himself, “something between symphony, concerto, and grand sonata”. The concert closes with Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony, an orchestral vision of the Scottish highlands’ wild landscapes.

Repertoire

Mozart: Symphony No. 35 in D Major, K. 385, “Haffner”; Schumann: Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54; Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 56, “Scottish”
